About Baby Teeth
Babies have 20 teeth that start to come in around 6-months to 1 year. Usually, all baby teeth will have come in by age 3.
It is important to care for these baby teeth because they pave the way for permanent adult teeth. If a baby tooth is lost too early, the adult teeth can come in crowded.
How to Care for Baby Teeth
Once the teeth start coming in, you want to start caring for them right away. Brushing with a very small amount of fluoride, just the size of a grain of rice for a few teeth.
After most or all of the baby teeth have come in, you can use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
When is a Baby’s First Dental Visit?
There are differing views on when you should bring your child in for their first dental appointment. At Rockside Family Dental Care, we recommend bringing them in when they are two for a cavity checkup. Their first cleaning will usually be around three years old.
