At Rockside Family Dental Care, we offer our expert care for patients in need of a root canal, also known as endodontics. There is a stigma when it comes to root canals that they are painful and overall unpleasant. However, our main focus is on providing our patients with world-class care while still allowing them to remain comfortable.
When are Root Canals Needed?
A root canal is necessary to protect a tooth that is infected and prevent further infection or abscess. This is done by opening up the tooth and cleaning the canals that run to the root of the tooth. After the tooth is clean, we can fill the canals and tooth and place a crown over the natural tooth. This process eliminates the current infections and protects the roots from any additional damage.
During the treatment, the patient is numbed, so they do not feel a thing. Treatment time can vary from patient to patient depending on their tooth anatomy, how bad the infection is, and which tooth is being treated.
Signs You Might Need a Root Canal
- If you are experiencing discomfort at any time, but especially when eating/ drinking hot or cold foods or liquids.
- Throbbing pain.
- Swelling gums.
- Referred pain- Pain or discomfort in another part of your mouth.
- No symptoms- Sometimes, tooth infections can be painless and therefore, can be dangerous as the infection can spread without you knowing it. This is why it is important to regularly visit your dentist.
