What Does it Mean When a Dental Office Has an EFDA?
What is an EFDA?
An EFDA or Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary is a dental care employee who specializes in the placement of preventive and restorative materials.
How Do You Become an EFDA?
To become an EFDA, you have to first be a certified dental assistant or a registered dental hygienist. Then you can apply to an accredited dental after program where you are taught instrumentation, anatomy, morphology, and occlusion. After you pass that accredited program, you then take a board exam that’s given by the Ohio State Dental Board.
What Value Can an EFDA Provide?
Having an EFDA really helps the dental office with time management. Having that extra person who is taught, certified, and experienced with preventative and restorative dentistry frees up the dentist to perform other responsibilities.
