Proper Technique for Brushing Your Teeth

We all know that it is important to brush our teeth regularly, but not everyone knows why. Brushing your teeth helps keep your mouth feeling clean and your breath fresh, but it is also essential for good oral health!

Why is it Important to Brush Your Teeth?

There is a film around your teeth called plaque which is a colony of bacteria that build up throughout the day. The longer the bacteria sit in the oral cavity, the more dangerous it can be. This bacteria can eat away at your gums, prevent cavities, and lead to even more serious problems like tooth decay.

While it is important to brush the bacteria off, it’s also important to do it in a proper technique.

How to Brush Your Teeth

First things first, you want to make sure you are using a toothbrush with soft bristles. Using hard bristles can do more harm than good.

After you apply your toothpaste, you can take the toothbrush to your teeth at about a 45-degree angle and gently brush back and forth all the way around your teeth.

You also want to make sure to brush the chewing surfaces. Here you can apply a little more pressure to get a nice deep clean.

How Often Should You Brush?

We recommend brushing your teeth at least two times a day.

How Often Should You Replace Your Toothbrush?

About every three months.
